Job purpose
The Executive Director is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the Saskatchewan Camps Association according to the strategic direction set by the Board of Directors. This position coordinates, facilitates, and directs the day-to-day operations of the Association.
Reporting relationships
The Executive Director reports directly to the board of directors.
Contract and/or project staff report to the Executive Director when applicable.
Hours of work
This position is full-time, traditional business hours, with occasional evenings and/or weekends.
Working Conditions
Remote office located within Saskatchewan. Some provincial travel is required. A reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license is required.
The ED works independently, while keeping in close contact with the President of the Association, and the Membership.
Core competencies and primary duties and responsibilities
Leadership
- Participate with the Board of Directors in developing a vision and strategic plan to guide the Association.
- Act as a professional advisor to the Board of Directors on all aspects of the Association’s activities.
- Proactively identify, assess, and inform the Board of Directors of internal and external issues or concerns that affect the Association, its programs and services, and/or its members.
- Serve as the face of the Association to increase visibility, credibility, and organizational value, and develop and maintain strategic partnerships to further increase industry awareness, expand programs, and strengthen membership value.

Operational planning and management
- Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the Association
- Ensure that the operation of the Association meets the needs and expectations of its members, Board, and Funders
- Provide support to the Board by preparing, in partnership with the President, meeting agenda and supporting materials.
- Provides interpretations on Association policies and procedures for the membership, public, and other staff as it pertains to programs and series provided by the Association.
Financial planning and management
- Coordinate the preparation and monitoring of the budget in consultation with the Treasurer and President and develop an actionable plan for generating revenue and managing monthly cash flow.
- Prepare, submit, and report for grant applications, particularly the Sask Lotteries Trust Fund, in coordination with the Board to ensure the planned results are aligned with the mission, vision, core values and strategies of the Association.
Program planning and management
- Oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of the Association’s programs and services, ensuring the Association operates by the policies, procedures and direction established by the Board of Directors.
- Coordinate the annual SCA Camp Conference and other education events and projects.
- Oversee the Accreditation Program, processes and visits
- Coordinate Promotion activities for the Association, in alignment with the strategic plan
- Oversee operations and administrative services when required for all core committees and ad hoc committees established by the Board of Directors.
- Seek ongoing knowledge and understanding of provincial legislation that affects the facilities or programming of organized camps, and, when necessary, advocate on behalf of the camps in Saskatchewan.
- Resource member camps through the website member area, weekly emails, monthly Zoom, and one-to-one support, building relationships with member camps and fostering community.
Qualifications
- Excels in relationship building with a wide variety of persons and stakeholders
- Skillful communicator, verbal and written, and possess a coaching and supportive mindset
- Strong administrative skills and proven capacity for leading projects and initiatives with strategic focus
- Financial management proficiency is essential, and experience in grant writing is preferred
- Experience in coordinating educational workshops and conferences is an asset
- Possess a Class 5 license and a reliable source of transportation
- Technical ability to work with Google Workspace and comfortable in an Apple OS computer environment
- Preference will be given to applicants with previous experience in a camp environment, and knowledge of the camping industry in Saskatchewan
- Preference will be given to a person with related post secondary education.
The Saskatchewan Camps Association offers a compensation package that includes the following:
- Salary range 45,000 – $51,000 (final compensation will be calculated based on experience, education, training and abilities.
