Camp Counsellor Job Description

Position: Camp Counsellor

Wage: $16/hour 

Term: June 29th – August 28th 2026

This position reports to: Camp Coordinator

Vacation: Paid out through bi-monthly paycheques 

Overview:

The role of camp counsellor is not always easy, but it is one of the most rewarding roles at camp. This position is a great way to build confidence in areas of skill development, creativity, and leadership. You will be pushed to develop your interpersonal and problem solving skills as you navigate the ins and outs of a week of camp. 

Responsibilities:

• Care for and supervise up to 10 assigned campers each week.
• Provide a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for all campers.
• Lead Bible discussions with your group of campers.
• Collaborate with fellow counsellors to plan and lead camp activities.
• Mentor and act as a role model for assigned Counsellor-in-Training (CITs).
• Work with peers to model and teach nature-friendly camping practices.
• Help mediate minor camper conflicts or situations that do not require direct coordinator intervention.
• Engage respectfully with campers’ guardians at drop-off and pickup each week.
• Follow Shekinah safety protocols, procedures, and training requirements.

Qualifications: 

• Successful applicants should have their grade 12 diploma
• Enjoys working with children.  
• Must be physically able to participate in all camp activities. 
• Must get a vulnerable sector/criminal record check if hired.
