Summer

2020 LOOKS A LITTLE DIFFERENT…

Summer 2020 is looking different in many ways and we know that your summer camp experience will be different too. Our member camps have had to navigate the best options for their programming and operations as we all take a step away from “business as usual”. This means that some camps are closed for the summer, some camps will be offering virtual or at-home programming, some camps will run day camps on site, and some camps will make their beautiful sites available for private rentals.

One thing has remained the same, as SCA members, our camps are always in the business of offering quality and safe camp programs. They are dedicated to reducing all types of risks, including the transmission of COVID-19 and we applaud them for the efforts and evaluations they have put in place to make summer 2020 safe for their campers and staff. We encourage you to stay connected in your camp community whether you can be right there in person or you are following along on their social media from home.

IMPORTANT INFO

  • Remember, if you feel sick or have any of the COVID-19 symptoms, please stay home. We know that no one wants to miss camp, but we all want to be healthy and back to camp in 2021!
  • Youth and Child Day Camps will be allowed to open in Phase Four Part One of the Re-Open Saskatchewan Plan on June 22, 2020. If you are interested in the Government Guidelines for Day Camps in 2020 – look here
  • At this time, overnight camps are not permitted. We are not sure if the transmission risk will be low enough to re-open these types of camps in 2020. This is disappointing news for all of us – we LOVE camp, it’s such a fun adventure with your friends!  And parents, there are so many amazing values and benefits you see for your child! Read more about those benefits here.
  • How you can help your camps and stay connected in your camp community
    • Follow your camp on social media (you can find those links in our Camp Directory)
    • Wear your camp t-shirt, hoodie, or other swag! Check if your camp has an online store and add to your collection, wear it out on your afternoon walk and tell people how much camp means to you!
  • Help us advocate for our camps!
    • Provincial – Send a letter to the Saskatchewan Ministry of Finance asking them to financially support camp. The SCA has drafted a template letter for parents to email directly to Minister Harpauer (fin.minister@gov.sk.ca). Please also cc this to your local MLA! (List of MLAs)
    • Federal – Send a letter to the Canadian Finance Minister asking for financial support for our camps. The Canadian Camping Association drafted a letter template in the hope that you, as a summer camp parent, will sign it and email it directly to Minister Morneau (Bill.Morneau@parl.gc.ca).
