About the Role:
Working closely with the Camp Director the Program Director will be responsible for the development and implementation of Western D-Camps individual programs. Working with a program team the Program Director will be responsible to provide leadership and mentorship to each member of the program team. The Program Director will also play a critical role in developing and leading staff training. The Program Director will act as a positive role model for all campers, LDPs, instructors and counseling staff and will develop and maintain a professional working relationship with campers, parents, staff, health professionals, alumni, volunteers, supporters, visitors and any other stakeholders.
The Program Director position is a seasonal contract that starts the beginning of May and ends at the end of August. During camp preparation season (June) the individual will work full time office hours with some possible evenings and weekends. During camp season (July and August) the individual will be present at all West D-Camps, all travel and accommodation will be provided.
  • Helping plan, implement and evaluate Western D-Camps staff training.
  • Coordinating with the LDP Directors on program scheduling issues or collaborations.
  • Maintaining pre-camp communication with Camp Staff, Campers and Families on updates and necessary information.
  • Helping with the administration of all camp manual, camper files and staff files to ensure risk are managed appropriately for each camp.
  • Providing day-to-day supervision and mentorship to the Program Team.
  • Actively participating in program leading and evaluating evening, night and special day programs.
  • Managing specific program budget for each Western D-Camp program and advise Camp Director(s) of purchases made.
  • Ensuring campers, staff, and volunteers comply with all rules and regulations.
  • Maintaining a positive, professional and constructive relationship with all campers and staff members.
  • Organizing travel arrangement necessary to accommodate all Western D-Camps programs in adhering to all Diabetes Canada Travel Policies.
  • Evaluating the Program Team on a formative basis offering constant feedback during the program and provide a written evaluation to each participant by the end of the camp.
  • Providing a written report to Camp Director that will evaluate and make recommendations to all Western D-Camps programs.
  • Attending Camp Advisory group meeting as scheduled. Have information ready to report back to the group as necessary.
  • Any other tasks assign by the Camp Director.
About You: 
  • 2 – 3 years of summer or day camp experience.
  • 2-year minimum experience in program development and team leading.
  • Knowledge of diabetes management in children and youth an asset.
  • Experience in training, mentoring and supervising staff, volunteers.
  • Must be able to work responsibly and independently.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Good leadership, interpersonal communication and supervisory skills.
  • Must have a valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification.
  • Preference given to individuals with valid driver’s license.
